Who can offer the shipbuilding plates for aircraft carrier in future?
Now there is a new trend to make aircraft carrier in the world. Which countries have the ability to build large-scale aircraft carriers of 70,000 tons or more in the future? There are two key capabilities that need to be:
First, the capacity to manufacture the super deck steel plates in 5 meters width. In the contemporary construction of ships of 100,000 tons or above, marine usage plates or shipbuilding plates with a width of more than 4 meters should be used for both military and civilian ships. The production of 4 meters marine steel plates requires more than 4.8 meters rolling mills; the production of 5 meters wide super steel plates requires 5.5 meters super thick plate rolling mills! Now 5.5 meters thick plate rolling mill has been monopolized by China and the United States. Other countries only can make 3-4 meters wide steel plates which can be used on small and medium-sized aircraft carriers.
Second, the capacity to make large-scale steam turbines for ships, and now only two countries China and the United States still have complete production lines for it. Steam power can propel a large tonnage carriers, especially an aircraft carrier. It runs continuously to more than 30 knots and it is really inseparable from steam power.
