ERW pipes ( Electric Resistance Welding Pipes) have induction welding and contact welding two kinds of welding method. The ERW pipe applied the hot rolling steel plates as raw material, and went through pre-bending, continuous forming, welding, straightening, cutting and other processes.

The ERW tube is obviously different from the submerged arc welded tube(SAW tubes). The ERW pipes is made by pressure welding without filler metal. There is no other filled components in the seams, while the edge of steel plates are heated suddenly to welded temperature through the skin effect and the proximity effect of high electricity, then the squeeze roller pressed them together to form the forged structural seams. High-quality steel pipes require heat treatment on the weld line or off-line to refine the microstructure of the weld zone. The high-quality ERW welded pipe can reach the same toughness as the base metal, which cannot be achieved by the submerged arc welding process.

The ERW pipe has short weld joints, high dimensional accuracy, uniform thickness, and excellent surface and can bear high pressure. However, it also has shortcomings, such small diameter and thin wall, and the weld joints are easy to be eroded. The ERW tubes is used to transport vapor and liquid objects such as oil and natural gas, and ERW pipes can meet various requirements of high and low pressure. At present, ERW pipes play an important role in the world of transportation pipes.
