Spiral submerged arc welded pipe (SSAW pipes), also called spiral steel pipe or spiral pipe, is a spiral seam steel pipe which is made of steel coils as raw material, which is heated at normal temperature and extruded, and welded by automatic double wire double-sided submerged arc spiral welding technology.
SSAW spiral welded pipes include ordinary spiral steel pipes and thick-wall spiral steel pipes. Compared to ordinary wall thickness spiral steel pipe , the advantages of thick-walled spiral steel pipe are high compressive strength, high impact strength, high safety performance and long service life.
The strength of SSAW spiral welded pipe is generally higher than that of straight welded pipe. It can produce welded pipe with larger diameter with narrower blank, and can also produce welded pipe with different diameter with blank of the same width. Therefore there are many advantage of SSAW pipes: the same specification can be produced different diameter specifications of pipes, the material can adapt to a large range, the weld can avoid the main stress, and the stress is better. While the disadvantage is that the geometrical size is poor. Because the length of the weld is longer than that of the straight pipe so there will be more possilibity of cracks, pores and clips.
